It was about four hours til sun set. It had been a long hard day of training for Kaila Zopyros. She now was dressed in a fresh cotton dress, her boots discarded and laying on the ground beside the fallen pertified tree she now sat on. She pulled her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms about her legs, holding her dress down to ward off the cold. She stared off towards teh distant horizon from her perch at the edge of the old forest. Her long brown hair whipped around her elvish features as a cool breeze picked up. She shivered slightly and rested her chin on her knees. She curled her slender toes on the cool stone.
Kaila came out here often, the base camp wasn't too far away, there were scouts that wondered this far often. She was faily safe so she didn't bother with carrying her weopons belt with her. She just wanted to be alone, to try to think, for remember who she once was. At times she thought she was uncovering something of her lost past, but it was hazy and unclear. She was never sure if it was really a memory... or just some fantasy of wishing. She sighed absently and closed her almond shaped brown eyes, letting the last fading rays of sunlight soak into her.

Blair, watching he silently as he was instructed to do, smiled and began to make his way over. He was working with the army right now, under cover, to try to find the key and one of his main jobs while he pretended to work for Garrett was to watch her and make sure she stayed in good health. They had never really talked before, or even spent more than the time it took for him to lead her from place to place together, but he was essential her body guard, according to Edward, who was the one who had sent him out here in the first place.
Blair stopped next to her, not touching her or sitting, but standing behind her to watch the last rays of the setting sun. Smiling, he looked down. "Kaila, what are you doing out here this late, you know it's not safe after dark."

Kaila tensed and snapped her eyes open at teh sound of Blair's voice behind her. I.. I just wanted to be alone for a while. To think. she said a bit defensively. Kaila always seemed to be on teh defensive around Blair. She didn't trust him, course she didn't really trust anyone that much except Edward. The half-elf dropped her hands to the rock to support her as she stretched her legs out so that her bare toes almost touched the ground. Besides, it is not dark yet. I can stay here a few more moments and still make it back to Edward's before it is too dark. she said defensively.

Blair shook his head. "I know you can little one, you don't have to be so on guard. I've not hurt you." He reached behind him and and readjusted the position of his bo, looking around, guarding against the beasts that roamed the woods. He sighed a pushed his brown hair back, and laying his hand gently on her shoulder. "We need to start walking back Kaila, that way we're not walking back in the dark."

Kaila narrowed her warm brown eyes at her "body guard". She didn't even understand why Edward insisted on this man to guard her. She was plently capable of defending herself! Don't call me little one. I'm not a child. she said as she shrugged his hand off her shoulder and slid from the pertrified log, her feet touching silently on the ground. She bent over and scooped up her boots, Raising one foot at a time to slip them on. She gathered her long brown hair in her slender hands and pulled it over one shoulder as she walked past Blair. Annoyance clear in her step.

He huffed and rolled his eyes. Blair got a little tired of being treated like he was the 15 year old in the relationship. He caught up to walk next to her. "I am 10 years older than you Kaila, you are little to me." He put his hands in his pockets, keeping a wary eye on the surrounding woods, listening to the sounds of the beasts of night beginning to stir. He took his Bo off his back and began using it as a walking stick, the metal tips clinking every now and then on hidden rocks.
He looked over to Kaila, smiling at her. He was sent to Massachusetts to watch her, among other people, because of her skills with weaponry and the like. As much as he hated to play petty foot soldier in this army when he was of such a high rank in his own, he did rather enjoy watching over her.

She simply galred over at him and continued walking, the hem of her blue dyed cotton dress billowing lightly around her calves as a soft breeze picked up. Her hair blowing out behind her and a few stray strands sweeping across her fare face.
What are you smiling at? she asked him glancing his way as she pulled the stray hair from her almond shaped eyes. She wondered why he seemed so willing to watch her and follow her where she went. Most of the others didn't like being around her. Well, at least those with powers. She was like a flame snuffer for powers it seemed, and she couldn't turn it off. Then there was the slight discrepency in his colors. Something deeply hidden that she couldn't quite put a finger on. She was still figureing out how to interpret the colors she sees. But still... there was something about blair that didn't sit quite right.

He smiled, turning his eyes away form her. "Nothing sweet, just doin my job." He sighed, stretching and trying to usher her along a little faster. He looked over to her again, noticing that she was still looking at him with those almond eyes of hers. He chuckled at the suspicious look on her face, shaking his head. "Why are you looking at me like that Kai? I haven't done anything wrong."

Don't call me Kai. You know I do not like that. she retorted, skirting around his actual question. She felt his trying to usher her along and she bit her lip as she jumped up onto a long fallen tree. They'd made it out of the petrified wood, so this log wasn't made of stone. It was rotting in a few places. She skipped along it, hoping Blair wouldn't ask again.

Blair huffed and tried to stop Kaila from jumping around on the log. She knew better than to mess with the greenery, some of if was still radioactive and some of it was so rotten that she could seriously hurt herself on it. He ran after her, then stumbled on a grouping of rocks. He looked down nervously, poking at the grouping with his staff, the bo making a hollow sound against the rocks. The creature, for it was one, unrolled itself and hissed at him. It looked to be a huge rolly polly made of rock. It hissed again and scampered off into the trees. Sighing, he turned his attention back to Kaila, who was blatantly ignoring him and continuing to move along the rotting log.

((heh heh armadillo!))
Kaila glanced back to him when she heard teh kissing noise. But since she wasn't paying attention to her feet she stepped on a particularly rotten space on the lg and her foot fell through, twisting her ankle and scraping her leg. She gasped as she fell and a small scream excaped her lips. She flippe dher long brown hair out of her eyes and tried to pull her foot free. She gasped in pain and looked up to Blair. I.. I think it is stuck.

Blair swore softly and leaned down, examining her ankle where it was stuck in the log. He sighed, pressing gingerly and trying not to hurt her. There was already some bruising beginning to come up and he thought he might see some blood but her wasn't sure. He looked up to her, biting his lip. "I have to break the log a little around your leg so that I can get your foot out without hurting you more." He began to slowly break away pieces of the log, trying his best not to hurt her but he was sure he might be anyway. When he finally got her foot all the way out, he lifted her and set her on the ground, stretching her leg out in front of her. Noticing the swelling, he sighed, and looked up at her. "See this is why I told you not to walk on the log. Your brother is going to kill me."

Kaila gasped and sucked her breath in through her teeth as Blair broke away the rotten peices of the og to free her ankle. She stared at the already swelling and bruising that was coming up. At the mention of her "brother" Kaila's eyes got wide and she bit her lip as she looked up at Blair. Then she quickly recovered, not wanting to show that kind of weakness in front of Blair. Oh relax. Why would Edward kill you? It's just sprained. It'll be fine. she said insisted. There were a few scrapes on her leg. Then she realized that her foot was bare. Oh! my boot! she looked over to the log. It must of came off inside the log.

Blair moved away from her, looking down inside the log. He didn't see her boot right away, but he was sure it was in there. Taking a chance, Blair reached his arm down inside the hole, feeling around on the bottom of the log for her boot. While he did this, he looked over his shoulder to her. "He will kill me because he made me swear that I would protect you with my life. He wants me to keep you perfectly unscathed and when I bring you in there scraped, bruised, and sprained, he'll take me up on the 'with my life' part I'm sure."
Pulling her boot out, Blair turned it over, dumping out an acid green spider that scurried away as soon as it hit the ground. He turned to her, poking at her ankle gently to see if it would be ok to put her boot on. "Edward is a bit over protective, in my own opinion."

She winced when he poked at her ankle and reached out, snatching her boot out of his hand. Edward is a little over protective sometimes. But he means well. Though I do not know why he cares so for someone he does not really even know. I do not even know who I am. She carefully slipped her foot into her boot as she spoke. Biting her lip when it pressed against the swollen areas. But it wasn't too bad, she thought.
